Description

I don't see really any of these shapes in the images, but I guess it looks like one or all of these visually.

M17 is in the heart of the Milky Way toward the constellation Sagittarius, and it is an HII region, a cloud of hydrogen gas where stars are born. It is one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions in the galaxy, and it lies about 5-6,000 lightyears from us. It is about 15 lightyears across.
